Individual and Family Health Insurance Plans

Health care costs are on the rise, and it can be hard to find a plan you can afford. To decide what’s best for you and your loved ones, you should think about what you want out of your health plan and who will need coverage. We’ll begin by looking at various plans.

Of course, there’s the individual health plan for those who have only themselves to worry about. Even if you are single, the individual plan may not be the best option. These plans can vary greatly in level of coverage and cost.

Indemnity plans (also known as fee-for-service plans) will cover doctor visits and follow-up treatment. The cost for such a plan will vary depending on the deductible, but this is generally the most expensive kind of health insurance available.

Managed plans are somewhat of a middle ground. These plans, also known as HMOs, are the most cost effective option, but where you gain a low price, you lose some of your freedom to choose a doctor or hospital. You will have to choose from a preferred network of doctors and facilities, and if you need specialist treatment, you will need to go to your primary care doctor for a referral. Those in good health and only needing annual checkups, or the occasional sick visit are ideal candidates for this kind of plan.

Family plans are designed for families, as their name implies. Since these plans cover more than one person, the cost is higher. As is the case with individual plans, there are family indemnity plans as well. This can be an ideal solution for those with large families. Individual family health plans are also an option, and can be bought as a managed health care package.
