Basement Floor Paint

Painting your basement floor is a quick and easy way to transform the look of the room and get it ready for use. For your basement, choose an epoxy paint as it’s easy to clean and does not peel under humid conditions. These paints have been available for a long time for industrial uses, and they are popular because of their durability and their stain resistance. Using epoxy paint on your basement floor is cheaper and easier than laying a floor, and here are some other benefits:

*It’s durable and can stand up to scrubbing.

*It’s completely waterproof- basements are sometimes damp, and can even flood.

*When dry, it’s nontoxic.

*Epoxy paint is resistant to heat as well.

*It’s low maintenance

*It’s inexpensive

There are three main types of epoxy paint: solvent-based, water-based, and solid paints. Solid epoxy paint is the most expensive option, but it is also the most durable. Solvent paints are made of about 60% solids, and need adequate ventilation for use. Water-based paint is the cheapest choice and can do the job quite nicely for most homeowners. Before, epoxy paints were limited in color selection, but now, there are many colors to choose from. Be sure to prep the floor thoroughly before you begin painting- slow and careful work will provide a better result.

You will also need to seal the concrete after it’s painted- many home improvement stores sell kits that contain everything you need to seal your concrete floor. Painting your basement floor is a big step in turning your basement into a fully-functioning room in your house, and a good floor paint job with a few throw rugs can make the room feel more like the rest of your home.
